house is set! august 22, 2001 12:30pm to 2:45pm
We climbed the ladder from gravel floor in basement (it gets poured after house is set) to the first floor. We have keys! But we are not adept at the ladders at the entry doors, so chose the easiest route, particularly because Ashley Kathleen and the boys were with us. (Note: On Friday 8/24 we had easier access by the garage door to house..using our keys.)
We did not take many photos inside, but here are a couple...first, the living room has its fireplace, all walls are painted antique white (throughout the house), wiring is in, ready to be hooked up by electrician, and the stacks of boxes contain the siding for the parts of the house that will be sided after the garage and porches are added.

This is one of the ladders we opted not to attempt...notice the mess in the yard? The first hauling away of packaging, etc., totaled over 900 pounds! We have a second shot of the mess and of the nice view from inside through one of the windows.

Ah, the kitchen - that all important room. Range is a Whirlpool which will be delivered in about three weeks. We mistakenly thought a refrigerator came with the home, but it doesn't! Glad we still have our side-by-side (Hope it is big enough for the space).

Our first kitchen guests! Ben, Kolby, Ashley opening a drawer, and Dianne, who looks very much at home!

Success = climbing over and under stuff to get to the second floor! The framing behind Kolby is all temporary and was removed the next day by James and Richard. The stairway and foyer are open concept. The stair without rails and without 2 of the treads were a bit intimidating. Ashley was lifted over the treads and helped under the temporary beam.

This is the "270-degree view" office upstairs. Again, the framing is temporary and was removed. Carpeting is rolled on floor, and will be laid soon. Nathan and Kolby check out this room!

This is the view from one of the office windows. I was so surprised at how incredibly beautiful it is! This view is of the home owned by Karen and Joe who so graciously shared some of their land with us when we were searching for property. We are looking forward to being lifelong neighbors from this point forward, continuing our history of being very dear and close friends for several years.

To all those who came to our housesetting event in the middle of the workweek, we thank you so much for sharing this joy with us.
Thank you to Joe and Karen, Emily and BF, Lucas, Larry and Terri, Dianne and Ron, Leia and Steve, Ben, Nathan, Kolby, Ashley Kathleen, Bernie, James and Richard, the Nationwide crew from Virginia, and Mike and Brian, the crane operators. We were so sorry that Robert was out of town and Jan caught the flu - Robert has stopped by since, and Jan is feeling better. And thanks to all who have dropped by...Bill and Carolyn, Jim and Mary, Joe, Jim, Helen, Caren, Roger, Christopher, Alicia, Susan .... We look forward to seeing each of you again soon!

More to come from...
