Hans Michael Jurig Brimer

 Benjamin Brimer

William Brimer

GENERATION #2   Benjamin and Rebecca Brimer of  South Carolina
(Hans Brimer's Son; Father of William Brimer (Rev. War)
and Jessie Brimer (War of 1812)

1733:  Hans Michael jurig Brimer's son Benjamin Brimer was born.  Some evidence exists (not proven) that his middle name may have been Byrum.  Some evidence exists (not proven) that a second son (Joseph) may also have been born to Hans Michael.   Han's son, Benjamin Brimer, was born in either SC or PA likely.

1735:  Hans Michael jurig Brimer and family journeyed from Philadelphia to newly established Orangeburg, where he was awarded a land grant of town Lot 170 plus 200 acres of farm land.  See Hans Brimer webpage for more information on grants.

1736-1751:  Benjamin grew up in Orangeburg.  Evidence suggests that Benjamin moved to Rowan County NC in 1752.

1753: Benjamin married Rebecca Will in Rowan County.  He is listed in the 1753 Census for Rowan County, NC and may have moved here and met Rebecca and married her, or may have married and then moved to NC.  Benjamin and Rebecca had two known sons, twins William and Jesse (Jessie) born January 2, 1759; and possibly a son James or Joseph born 1760.  Apparently also had two daughters, Nancy and Betsy Brimer.

1759:  Tax records show Benjamin as a property owner in Rowan County.

1759, January 2:  Benjamin and Rebecca's two known sons, twins William and Jesse (Jessie) born.   Note:  Other children are a possible son James or Joseph born 1760. Benjamin apparently also had at least two daughters - Nancy (who married a Maus) and Betty (who married William Leonard).

OUR LINE:  Benjamin's son/twin William Brimer, Hans' grandson. Note: This William Brimer has no middle initial and is not William S. Brimer.

1765:  Benjamin's father, Hans Brimer, died.

1772:  Benjamin shown on Orange County, NC tax rolls as a property owner.

REVOLUTIONARY WAR:  Son William Brimer served in the Revolutionary War.

1784:  Son William Brimer married Elizabeth Elgin in Tennessee.  It is possible that she is 1/2 Cherokee Indian.

1789:  Son Jesse Brimer weds wife Eleanor.

1790 Census:  Son Jesse Brimer lives in Rutherford County, Morgan District, NC.

1790 Census:  Benjamin Brimer lives in Pendleton, SC with 1 free white female.

1791, July 2 LAND PURCHASE: Benjamin Brimer purchased 227.75 acres near Mountain Creek, Pendleton District, SC.  Below is a very old map of the original "Pendleton District," with a black box drawn around the "Mountain Creek" area of Pendleton District to show the general area of the 227.75 acres Benjamin bought along the waters of Mountain Creek.

GPS Coordinates per Mike Brimer
Mountain Creek Property:  34.262N  82.433W

1800 Census:  Brimer still living in the Pendleton District (census page 147), likely on his 227.75 acres.  Listed are:

1803 June, Will Written:  In June of 1803 Benjamin Brimer, recognizing that
he is soon to die, wrote his Last Will and Testament "being sick of body but in perfect mind."

1803:  Benjamin Brimer died in Anderson SC  Sept 9, 1803 at age 70 in Pendleton District of SC.

1803 Sept 20 Benjamin Brimer's Will:  Benjamin's will filed on this date in Will Book A, Page 38-39, in the Pendleton District, Anderson County, South Carolina (near what is now Lake Hartwell area of SC).  Benjamin gives his wife "Rebecka" most of his property.  He makes special bequests upon her decease to have the property divided into thirds with 1/3 to Jery (Jesse) Brimer, 1/3 to Nancy Maus and 1/3 to Bety Lenard (Betsy Leonard); $50 to Caty Gaber; 5 ?? to Rebacs Brimer, the Child of Sam.; 5 shillings to William Brimer, Polly Henry, Jas. (James) Brimer and Desire W. Lennard?  Benjamin Brimer signed his X before I. L. Brook  and Jonathan Watson.

1803:  Widow Rebecca and a man named James or Joseph (likely Rebecca's son) apply to administer Benjamin Brimer's will instead of son-in-law William Leonard.

1803 November 10-13 Public Estate Sale:  Benjamin Brimer's personal effects are sold to the public, netting $56.34.

Personal Observation of Donna Cator:  On the web there is considerable information suggesting that within a month of Benjamin's death, his widow Rebecca remarried in October 1803 to a neighbor  named  Van Davis, with their ceremony being held at the Old Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Pendleton, SC.  Along this line there appears a Rebecca Davis listed on the 1830 census, but, again, unknown if this is our widow.  Rebecca evidently died sometime after 1830.

1834, July 16th:  Benjamin and Rebecca's son William dies.
