In 1861, when Thomas Cator was in his late 20’s
and his wife, Sarah E. Cator, was about 18 years of age, Sarah gave birth
to William
Cator and his brother, our direct line ...
Charles
Conrad Cator, Sr. William may actually be
James William Cator.
We know from the 1880 Census that when
William was 18 years of age, he still resided in Prince George’s County, MD,
at the home of his parents, Thomas and Sarah. Also residing in this home
at that time were Ella, age 14, an adopted daughter of Thomas and Sarah, and
Florence, age 6, a niece of this family. John Thomas Ridgeway, age 32, was also
listed in the Census as a resident of this Cator household. It is
possible that Sarah E. is a "Ridgeway" and this is her relative.
William worked as a Superintendent at St. Elizabeth’s
Hospital in Washington, DC.
1870 From the Spauldings,
PGC, MD Census taken on July 10, 1870; This is Thomas and Sara E. Cator and
their children, James William Cator, Charles Conrad Cator, and Mary E. Cator.

buried at St. Barnabas
Episcopal Church in Temple Hills, MD.

Olivet), Bladensburg Road. She died in late 1890s.
TIDBIT: William
lived from 1861 to 1930 - his lifetime spanned many major events.
When William
was born Abraham Lincoln had just been elected President (1860).
South Carolina
seceded from the Union in 1860 and by 1861 the Confederate States of America
comprised 11 states.
The Confederate States took Fort Sumter in 1861, beginning
the Civil War. Maxmilian was Emperor(!) of Mexico in 1863. When William died in
1930, the United States was in the Great Depression and technology of the ‘30s
had just discovered the Pencillium mold but it would be 1943 before it would
treat patients as "Penicillin"! Imagine - living through the
Civil War and the Depression!!

1905 From the Washington
Post on June 9, 1905:
It is interesting to note that Ellen Liston Edwards (Mrs. James Edwards) is Mary
Margaret Liston Cator's sister. Mary Margaret Liston Cator died in the
late 1890s and her widowed husband remarried to Charity Clifton very soon
thereafter. To my knowledge The Cators retained custody of their
children/stepchildren.
