MOSES I. LeCOMPTE and LEVINIA P.
PATTISON Moses I. LeCompte as born in Dorchester County, Maryland in 1680, where he also passed away in later years. He married Levinia P. Patterson (widow of Matthew Driver) in 1704 in the same county. She was the daughter of Thomas Pattison. Moses was the son of a Moses LeCompte and Mary Skinner. Moses I. became blind in his twenties, as had his father. Levinia Patterson around 1702 "inherited 150 acres of The Grove on Oyster Creek on James Island from the will of her mother, Ann Pattison." She married Matthew Driver before 1704. Moses I. and Lavinia deeded half the "Grove" to their son/stepson, Matthew Driver, on August 11, 1731.. Three of Moses I.'s grandsons were Levin Cator, William Geoghegan and Moses Geoghegan," to whom he gave as follows; "unto my grandson Levin Cator, one half of the whole survey of "LeCompte's Addition" (34 1/2 acres) on James Island, in Dorchester County unto my two grandsons William and Moses Geohegan the eastermost half of "LeCompte's Addition," equally, and my part of "Grove," (75 acres) lying on James Island, Dorchester County." He also refers to his daughter Levinia Geoghegan (Dorch. Co. Land Records, XXII.222). Moses I. married second to Rebecca Stokes, daughter of Peter Stokes. He died in 1776. He was buried at Taylor's Island, Dorchester County, Maryland, Great Britain. Moses I. and Levinia had 4 children: MARY LECOMPTE, b. 1711, Dorchester County d. Dorchester County, MD; m. (1) Marmaduke Dove m. (2) Mr. Davey; b. Dorchester Count, MD; m. (3) EDWARD CATOR, 1744, Dorchester County. Levinia LeCompte who married a ______________ Cator; then married William Geoghegan. Moses LeCompte, born about1705 in MD; married Nancy Pattison Esther LeCompte Married Matthew Skinner.
1700-1711 Dorchester County, MD: EDWARD CATOR born. 1711 Dorchester County, MD: Mary LeCompte born as the daughter of Moses LeCompte (Jr.; b. about 1690) and Levinia Patricia Pattison, and the granddaughter of Moses LeCompte and Mary Skinner on her father's side, and Thomas & Ann Pattison on her mother's side. Between 1743 - 1744: Edward wed his bride, MARY LeCOMPTE; they had six children. After 1747: EDWARD CATOR dies. After 1747: Widowed, Mary LeCompte Cator died after 1747 and is buried in Dorchester County, MD. Nothing is known about his ancestry!!
Mary's parents, Moses Jr. and Levinia were married about 1704. Mary's father, blind, died in 1776 and is buried at Taylor's Island. Note: Adult-onset Retinosis Pigmentosa was common within the LeCompte line. Mary's mother Levinia Pattison inherited 150 acres of The Grove on James Island through the Will of her mother, Ann Pattison. Mary had two other marriages, one to a _____ Dove, and another to a _____ Navy/Davy; No children resulted from either of these two marriages.
