Census: Living in house at 122 Muse and Gay Street, Cambridge,
MD with his wife "Hallie P" who is 52 (he is 62), and daughter
Emily W. who is 16. He is the proprietor of the boarding house at
this location.

May 20th: His wife Halie
died at age 57 at Muse and Gay Sts, Dorchester Cty, MD. She was buried in the Christ Church Cemetery.
The cause of her death is: " Stroke of Apoplexy suffered morning of
death"; she died that night at 11:55 pm. She had had
two previous strokes within several months of her death, from which
she had recovered.

MD Census: Thomas is Head of Household with his daughter
Emily, both living
in a $12,500 home for which he was Proprietor for the
"hotel". He was not a veteran. In 1930 he was 72;
Emily was 26. (See Emily below).
1930
April 2nd: A widower at his death, Thomas
was in the Cambridge Hospital after a prolonged 5 week stay; he died at 72 years 2 months old and was buried on April 3, 1930
in the Christ Church Cemetery.
His home was on Gay and Muse Streets in Dorchester County.
Note: Thomas was an Honorary Member: Rescue Fire Company, Cambridge
MD.

"Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Spedden and son,
'Cator',
of Cambridge, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
H.P. Spilman. Rev. McClelland was a supper guest of Mr. and Mrs.
Spilman. Also Mrs. H.P. Spilman entertained at dinner on Wednesday evening, in honor of Mr.
Spilman's birthday. She had as her guests Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lloyd, Jr., and
Miss Emily Cator, of Cambridge, and Mrs. William Keene."
1930:
Rita lived in Cambridge; this is the year of her
father’s death.
1932:
Edgar Spedden died. Widowed, Rita
would only live four more years.
1936:
Rita Cator Spedden died, 4 years after
Edgar died.

second daughter of Thomas and Lena was
NADINE CATOR.

Nadine married HENRY LLOYD, JR.
1930:
Nadine lived in Cambridge; this is the year of her
father’s death.

EMILY
CATOR was
the owner of the Cator House in
Cambridge, a boarding house that is now a restaurant by the same
name, The Cator House. It
is believed that Emily never married.
She was a notary
public in Dorchester County several times.
Note:
The Cator House was originally the home of Moses LeCompte, built
in 1710, it is said, and long known as The Old LeCompte House, in
the neighborhood of Church Creek. In 1781, Moses
LeCompte IV, invited the newly organized Methodist Congregation to
hold meetings at his home, pending the erection of a chapel. The
CATOR family acquired the property in 1801, and it became known as
the Cator House until 1940 when it was not habitable. Remodeled now
as the current "Cator House" Restaurant.
The Cator House in Cambridge is believed to be haunted by the spirit
of Emily Cator per the employees of this restaurant who claim to
have heard and felt her presence. Emily built the inn
originally for travelers.

years old. No known children. Ella and
"Vee" (Elmira
Valorie Mace Cator/Mrs. Charles Bragg Cator) lived together in their
later years on Taylors Island. They both died in the early 1950s.

He is recorded as living on Taylors Island in Dorchester County.

VALERIA "VEE" MACE,
December 2, 1891 in Woolford, MD.
In
the 1900 Census they are living in Parson's Creek in Dorchester County
and he is farming. Valeria and Charles have with them: Benjamin
F age 7, Catherine M. Cator who is two, born in Apr 1898.
Charles' sister Ella who is 39 is also living with them, along with a niece
"Reith L" who was born May
1881 and is 19. "Reith is Reita, daughter of Sheriff Thomas
B. Cator.
In
1910 Census Charles Bragg Cator is a farmer. Living with him on
Taylors Island are his wife, Vee, to whom he has been married 18
years. Son Benjamin F. Cator is 17; Catherine Cator is 13; and Charles
B. Jr. is just a newborn infant - about 2 months or so.

50, born about 1880 in Maryland. Living in 1930 in
Philadelphia. She rents a boarding house and takes in
boarders. She is widowed. She lives next to Southampton
Road (see Benjamin and George and Ward below:

She is buried at Grace P.E. Church Graveyard on Taylors Island.
At the time of her death, all three of her children were living in
Pennsylvania.

Valeria's brothers: Bassett S. Mace, who was born in Cambridge,
married Mary Agnes Doyle Mace; he died at age 67. His funeral was held
at home in Mt. Washington and burial in Woodlawn

Benjamin and the neighbor, George H. Carter/Cator both are "chauffeurs
for the city transportation". George H Carter/Cator was also
born in MD to MD born parents. George is just two years younger than
Benjamin. They live next door to each other on Southhampton
Road in Philadelphia.

at Byberry Road, Somerton Philadelphia, . Pennsylvania at the time of the
registration, April 27, 1942. He was listed as 49 years old, born on
1/27/1893 on Taylors Island in Maryland. Mrs. Tacy Lott Cator, his
wife, is listed as emergency contact. He does not list any employment.
Benjamin is 5'5" tall, 178 bs., brown eyes, brown hair with a
light complexion.

CATOR. Charles
died Oct 25 or 26 in 1971.

1895:
KATHERINE MACE CATOR born.
She married
FLOYD
DONALD SUTHERLAND. Katherine Mace Cator is buried at Jefferson Memorial
Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but may have died in Richmond VA
(1953).
They
had two children,
Janice Mace Sutherland who was born April 11, 1929
in McKeesport PA, and died November 25, 2000 in
Pittsburgh. Second daughter was KATHLEEN
SUTHERLAND. No other information
known..

Per the 1880 Census he worked on a farm at age 15.

Cator, 55 year old merchant born about 1865 (Nov 1884), owned a
mortgaged home at 511 Roland Avenue,
Baltimore, MD, residing there with his wife, Mabel B. Cator (47, b. abt. 1873),
and son William W. Cator (Jr.) (b. abt 1894-5). His son William Jr. worked
in Commercial Trucking for a wholesale millinery (likely Armstrong and Cator
Company in Baltimore). William Sr. and his parents were all born in
Maryland. Mabel was born in NJ and her parents were born in
Massachusetts. She did not work. William Jr. was born in
Maryland. 1920 Census - Baltimore City 23 June 1920,
District 3, ED 454, 27th City Ward, Sheet 6A.. Also listed in Baltimore
County MD Farmer's 1915 Directory on page 46: William W. Cator, 511
Roland Avenue, Tuxedo B tel.
His residence in 1930 was Baltimore, MD - the year of his brother,
Sheriff Thomas', death No other info.

Cator (Sr.) retired, owned a $28,500 home at
4907 Roland
Avenue. He was 65 in 1930 (born about 1865 = Nov 24, 1864); his wife (name not listed on
census, but is Mabel) was 58. They were married when he was 28 and she was
36. He and his parents were all born in Maryland. She was born
in New Jersey and her parents were both born in Massachusetts.
Living with
them was their son, FRANKLIN
CATOR, who was 19 and Single. He was born in
Maryland about 1911. Franklin worked as a clerk for a Bonding Co.
