 GENERATION 2
Descendants of Thomas P. Redden II and
Martha "Patsy" Shadwick/Chadwick

THOMAS P. REDDEN, II  was born before July 27, 1807 in Pumpkintown, Pickens County,  SC;  died in Henderson County, NC.

Thomas II  married MARTHA "PATSY" ANN SHADWICK in 1828 in Wilkes, NC.  Patsy's father is Hardy Shadwick or Chadwick. She was born before August 19, 1811 in Henderson County, NC; died in NC.

Patsy and Thomas Redden had 6 sons, all of whom served at some point as  confederate soldiers.

In the 1850 Georgia Census, Thomas II Redden (spelled "Reading") was 41 years of age  CENSUS: 1850 Georgia, Gilmer Co., 33rd Subdivision, 19 Aug 1850.   Thomas and family are residing in Gilmer with 12 children. Their friend, Dr. Wm. H. Milton, lived next door to them.  Ultimately they named their son Levi Milton as a tribute to their friendship.

10 years later they have moved back to NC and are listed in the 1860 NC Census.  Thomas II was listed as 53 years old. 1860 NC, Henderson Co., Green River Twp., 27 Jul 1860.   Their neighbors are now Ezekial Kuykendall and the Guice family. Only their male children still lived at home, indicating all the females have now moved on.

The Thomas P. Reading/Redden family of North Carolina is related to the Texas Reddens. Clint Redden proudly relayed stories of his kinship who served in the Civil War. Ex:  His Uncle John Redden served in the Northern region during the Civil War; was captured but he managed an amazing escape. (Source Book:  The War of the Rebellion Volumes). Clint tells how after the War ended, some family members earned money as traveling salesmen who went from state to state in a wagon. On one trip they traveled south and happened upon a home owned by a Texas man with whom their rapport was immediate...they discovered this was their Uncle John - the one who had escaped and then walked to Texas to avoid death by the "Yankees".

Martha "Patsy" Ann SHADWICK is listed as age 39 in the 1850 Georgia Census (born about 1811); 45 in the 1860 NC Census (born about  1815) .  She had been married at least 26 years by the time of the 1860 census (married about 1834).
